HAHAHA! Less than a month since my last post, I'm getting better. Last week was a TON of fun, I'm still in recovery. It's been a while since I've done that much hanging out with people, and I think I kind of like it.  Let's see, what all did Liz do...

Tuesday: my usual fun night with Diana and Luke

Wednesday: the amazing Stacey-meister's birthday party at Flat Top Grill. Love that place!

Thursday: Sam and Jessica came over for band practice

Friday: went to see the movie 9 then hung out at Denny's with various awesome people (Jarrod, Sam, Jessica, JD, the John C's, Stacey, Amber, and Ellen. Phew, I think that's all.) Also, I attempted to learn a card game which I cannot remember the name of at the moment. It was fun, though!

Saturday: the Highpointe ladies went to the Morton Pumpkin Festival, which sported an alarming lack of pumpkins but included the biggest grill I have ever seen and some of the most awesome squash flavored food of all time. Pumpkin-caramel shakes, yum. It's like pumpkin pie in a cup.

Sunday: church of course then football/movie night with Nathan and Betsy.

Good times, good times. I also went to see Sarah's new workplace, Fresh Market. She was kind enough to share a chocolate milk themed break with me.  Today I have to finish up my first comic strip for the Heartland Community College newspaper and get it e-mailed to the editor. Once it's finished I will add it to my gallery at DeviantArt for your viewing pleasure. You can see my stuff at http://aedifico.deviantart.com/ if you so desire. I think I might start going to the pool nights at the BBC...yeah, that would be fun. I greatly enjoyed it the one time I went, and after last week I'm afraid I'll miss not seeing people as much.

    Sometimes busy is good :D

Work at the library continues to be just as boring as it usual, however there is plenty of other exciting stuff going on. First of all, I got to hear from Kristiana and Jenny! Yay! Jenny went to New Zealand this summer and her pictures are gorgeous. You should all be jealous of her globe-trotting adventures, I know I am. Congratulations on the job offer Kristiana, unexpected blessings are very cool.

Next up, ART! My drawing and linework are improving exponentially, and I'm learning how to use photoshop for digital coloring. I haven't finished coloring anything yet, but I am working on coloring one of four that I have finished drawing. Once I have finished coloring all four I am going to join DeviantArt.com as my prize! It's a free online art gallery/portfolio community, and I am quite excited. Once I join you can all drop by there and see my stuff! I have also started working my way through the 100 Theme Challenge, which is a list of 100 themes like "light" and "67%". I know, it sounds kind of random doesn't it? Well, I think that's helpful in getting the creative juices flowing. You see, the point of the challenge is to create one piece of art, any genre, for each theme. Cool, huh? So by the time I finish, I will have 100 finished artworks under my belt. I think it's going to be a great way to get some practice before I actually start up my webcomic. I want my art to be a little better before I start drawing the actual comic pages.

Speaking of the webcomic, I think I'm going to call it an "online graphic novel". That seems to be the accepted term for the type of "comic" that I want to make. It's going to be very storyline based, rather than daily gags or short humor arcs. I hope it will be humorous at least part of the time, but that's not the main point of it. The point is to tell stories. It will be set in a fantasy world, which doesn't sound very original when I say it, but I'm trying to put a sincere effort into world-building and put my own spin on things. It's a ton of fun to work on, someday I hope I can do this sort of thing full time instead of being a library assistant. I have the first 3 chapters scripted out, and tons of ideas for future chapters. Each chapter will be a mini-storyline, but the whole thing will focus on the lives and adventures of a main cast of characters.

While we're on the subject of lives and adventures, I have saved the newest and coolest news for last. Diana has asked me to be a concept artist for her next indie film! Oh my goodness, I can barely contain my glee.  I've been thinking about it since Tuesday night when she asked me. This way, we each get some help and experience in our respective arts, PLUS we get to work together! Fun, fun, fun! I don't know much about the film yet, but we're going to talk about it more next week. I've already started doing a little research into the style they're going for, though. Can you tell that I'm excited?! I can't wait to start, I only wish I was a decent digital painter so I could be a little more creative with my art style. I was waiting to start learning that, but maybe I'll have to start now!

    No news is...no news.

Not too much going on lately. I went to the Women of Faith conference with my mom, my pastor's wife, and my aunt this past weekend. It was rather stressfull. The conference itself was pretty cool, although that is not something that I find nearly as enjoyable or exciting as Mom does. I think I would be just as happy watching the DVD as I would be actually going. However, I may go again next year just to get a better idea of what it's really like. There was some peripheral ickyness  going on this year that made it even harder to enjoy, so I'm not totally sure I formed a completely honest opinion about the actual event. At the moment, though, I don't have to make that decision yet.

In other news... HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY TO LUKE AND DIANA!  Use that gift card on yourselves, now, not somebody else. That's for you two to have a romantical date, not feed mooching younger siblings or something.

In other, other news...ANSWER MY E-MAILS, KRISTIANA! This is you when you answer the e-mail-->  If you have another preferred e-mail besides your ilstu account, let me know so I can send stuff there and hear back from you. Because this is me when you answer the e-mail-->

  • Finally, the fish!

Well, my mouth is pretty much all healed up now. YAY!! I really, REALLY love being able to eat and chew.  I've been a lot better for a while now, but I felt guilty about posting without including my fishy pictures (since I promised to get them up here). Today, though, I finally got somebody to help me figure out how to get the pictures off of the borrowed digital camera and onto the computer. I got them onto Zanga myself, and I'm proud even though it's really not that big of an accomplishment. So without further ado, here are my lovely fish!Monster and gourami

On the left we have the unnamed blurry blue fish, an opeline gourami with attitude. On the right is Monster, a comet goldfish who eats everything in sight that doesn't fight back. Sorry the picture is so blurry, they never sit still. Especially not when they are begging for food, which they were doing here. Their tank is in front of a mirror, which made picture taking slightly more difficult. It's a very comfy tank, if I do say so myself. If I was a fish I would want to live there.

     Betta pic

This is the as-yet also unnamed half-moon king betta. Isn't he gorgeous? He's really slow and laid back compared to the other two, so he has his own little tank right next to theirs. His bamboo and shelter is more fancy to make up for the lack of companionship. Sometimes it's hard to tell if he's awake or asleep!

It would be funny if it didn't hurt to laugh.

Well, I got 3 wisdom teeth removed yesterday morning. Pretty much the last thing I remember until I (sort-of) woke up in the recovery room is thinking "This anesthesia isn't doing anything, I sure hope it works." Lol. It hurt too much to talk when I got done, so I kept trying to spell things out to mom in sign language. Unfortunately, I couldn't remember how to spell very well, and I couldn't remember how to make all the letters either. It took her and at least one nurse to get me to the car, a trip which I also don't remember. Evidently the cute guy at the pharmacy that she's been wanting to set me up with has now seen me unconscious, swollen, drugged, and ice-packed. Hooray. I vaguely remember Sarah and Mom half-dragging me into the house. I had to stop and rest about half way to the porch. Apparently I also started drooling blood all over at about the same time, because Sarah got a bit upset and Mom kept telling me to bite down. I'm not sure I followed that order; I was too busy wondering where the blood was coming from and wondering how I could bite down when I no longer had teeth. After getting my gauze changed, taking more vicodin, and laying down on the couch, I was unconscious until about 4pm. At which time I woke up enough to have some slimfast and applesauce for dinner. I was awake long enough to watch Paul Blart: Mall Cop, then it was time for more vicodin and unconsciousness until this morning. I'm still swollen, ice-packed, sleepy, and drugged, but now I can walk to the bathroom mostly by myself. Plus I have added yogurt to my diet. Good times at the Ritter house.

P.S. I had to type almost every word in this post twice due to my continuing vicodin-induced inability to spell. I would laugh at myself, but my face hurts too much to even think about it. It's time for more vicodin, so now I'm going to try to play WoW while under the influence of ultra-strength painkillers. Assuming I can stay awake, that is.

P.P.S. I haven't forgotten about the picture of my new fish, Liz. We've been having some internet connection problems this week, and I had to borrow a digital camera. I've got the picture taken, but I don't think I have enough functioning brain cells to figure out how to post it yet. Sorry, I'm afraid it might take another couple days. I'll get it to you, though, don't worry.
